Man injured after Racine County helicopter crash

RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- A man is injured after his helicopter crashed in Racine County.

According to the county sheriff's department, the 61-year-old was piloting a one-passenger aircraft and hovering about 15 feet above ground when the helicopter dropped into a cornfield at about 8:25 a.m. Sunday.

A witness told investigators that the pilot got out of the aircraft and walked toward the back, where it appeared a rear rotor hit him in the back of head.

The man was taken to Froedert Hospital where he was being treated for injuries that are not expected to be life threatening. He was in stable condition Sunday.

The sheriff's department says the small helicopter sustained very little damage and the exact cause of the crash is being investigated.
