MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senate Democrats say they've reached a deal on a new Milwaukee Bucks arena.
Republicans have crafted a bill that would devote $250 million in public dollars to the $500 million project. The Bucks' owners would contribute $150 million and former owner Herb Kohl would contribute $100 million.
GOP Senate leaders hope to take up the bill this week but need minority Democrats to join them to muster enough votes to pass the measure.
Democratic senators met for several hours Wednesday. Sen. Chris Larson of Milwaukee says they reached a deal that calls for a ticket surcharge and eliminating a requirement that Milwaukee County provide $4 million annually by collecting overdue county fines and forfeitures. Larson says the county would have to find that money through a different mechanism.
