Wisconsin man gets prison for stealing gun from police
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A northwestern Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 42 months in prison after admitting he stole a gun from police during a burglary.
Twenty-four-year-old Darren Bishop of Ladysmith was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Madison. The Leader-Telegram reports he pleaded guilty in April to a charge of possessing a firearm as a felon.
Authorities say Bishop took a .22-caliber revolver during a November burglary at the Elk Mound Police Department. The newspaper says Bishop later admitted to taking the gun to trade it for methamphetamine.
A judge ordered Bishop pay roughly $10,200 to the village of Elk Mound for damage caused in the burglary.
