Lost cat found in Honolulu traced to Detroit family

HONOLULU (AP) -- A family that moved from Hawaii to Detroit, Michigan, more than a year ago, is being reunited with the cat they thought they had lost forever.

KHON-TV reports  that Hawaii resident Bill Antilla found the family's beloved Bogie near Honolulu airport.

Antilla feeds a colony of stray cats in the area three nights a week. He is a volunteer for Hawaii CatFriends, a nonprofit that spays and neuters feral cats on Oahu.

He says Bogie caught his eye because he looked like a purebred Siamese -- unusual among feral cats on the island -- and was friendlier than the others.

Antilla discovered that the cat was microchipped. The Hawaiian Humane Society was able to trace him back to the family in Detroit.

He says the family's daughter called about 30 minutes later, ecstatic.
