HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) -- When the alpha male in a pride of lions dies, rival male lions have been known to kill the offspring of that animal.

And Cecil, the lion killed by an American hunter in Zimbabwe, left behind many young cubs.

But a wildlife official there says there have been no reports so far of any of those cubs being killed. He says, "We believe the cubs are still out there in the bush."

The official says no rescue missions are planned.

According to the official, after Cecil was killed, his head was severed by the hunters -- and it's been confiscated by wildlife authorities.
