Police: Illinois man dies after jumping into Wisconsin lake
TOWN OF DELAVAN, Wis. (AP) -- Police say a 49-year-old Illinois man has died after he jumped into a southern Wisconsin lake to retrieve fishing equipment.
Town of Delavan police say officers responded to a report of a possible drowning at Delavan Lake around 1:45 p.m. Sunday. According to police, the man from St. Charles had jumped in the water without a lifejacket, and showed signs of distress after a few minutes.
WITI-TV reports the man's brother-in-law jumped into the lake to help him, but he became fatigued. The two were pulled into a nearby boat, and the man wasn't breathing.
The TV station says the man was pronounced dead after attempts to revive him. His name was not released, pending notification of his family.
