Woman gets up to get coffee right before car slams into her office

(WREX) -- The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Chief Don Shoevlin said a woman inside a building hit by a car Tuesday morning definitely had someone watching out for her above.

Shoevlin said at 10:40 a.m, a driver slammed into an AllState Insurance building on Franklin Street, not far from N. 2nd Street in Illinois.

"Fortunately she'd just gotten up to get a cup of coffee," said Shoevlin.  He said the car rammed into the woman's office.  She was taken to the hospital just to be checked out, Shoevlin said.

As for the driver, the fire chief said bystanders helped her out of the car.  She was taken to the hospital as well.  Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, said Shoevlin.

Roscoe Police are investigating what caused the woman to crash into the building.  They plan to interview the woman once they are able to at the hospital, according to Deputy Chief Police Chief Derrick Lee.

Shoevlin said the building, which has three units in it, was turned back over to the owner.  The fire chief said he advised the owner to have an engineer check out the structural integrity of the building.
