CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The Cedar Rapids Police Department says they are interviewing two men after they say remnants of a meth lab were found inside the Taco Bell at 2621 Blairs Ferry Road NE in Cedar Rapids this morning.

Greg Buelow, Public Safety Communications Coordinator, says officers were called at around 4:42 a.m. Tuesday for a suspicious person at the restaurant.

When they arrived, officers found an employee and another person at the restaurant.

Buelow says officers went inside after the manager arrived and found meth lab remnants inside.

In a statement, Taco Bell Corporation -- through their public relations firm, Zeno Group -- says, “We understand that two people, one an employee, entered our franchisee’s restaurant illegally, allegedly possessing suspicious items. Both we and our franchisee find this completely unacceptable. Our franchisee has been cooperating with Cedar Rapids Police to investigate this isolated incident.

"Although the suspicious items found in the restaurant were not used in the kitchen, the employee has been terminated and our franchisee is considering pressing criminal charges. The restaurant will reopen after it has been sanitized inspected by the Health Department.”

Signs on the door of the restaurant say they expect the restaurant to reopen at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
