(CNN) -- Netflix announced that it's now offering all employees unlimited, paid parental leave.

It applies to the first year after a child is born or adopted.

Employees can return to work part-time, or return to work full-time for a few months and then leave again.

The company already has an unlimited policy for vacation and sick days.

But the announcement explicitly adds unlimited parental leave.

A Netflix executive says the goal is to attract and retain top talent.

The California-based streaming service is one of many tech companies offering progressive parental leave policies: new parents at Facebook can take four months off.

And at Apple, new moms get 14 weeks of paid leave, and their partners can take six weeks.
