4 dogs, 7 cats found in "deplorable" vehicle, man arrested
UPDATE (WKOW) -- A group of people were worried about the welfare of the four dogs and seven cats inside a hot, cluttered and small SUV. The windows of the vehicle were only cracked open slightly and after failing to find the owner, police were called.
The man returned prior to police, but the large crowd of concerned citizens, many emotional, prevented him from driving out of the Menards parking lot on Commerce Drive Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect, who had been inside Menards, backed his vehicle up within inches of a couple of the good samaritans who held their ground as police got on scene.
Inside the vehicle, officers found two small dogs loose in the front, two big dogs roaming around in the back; five cats in one crate, one in another crate, and a 7th cat stuck under a seat. Police say the SUV was full of animal feces, describing the overall conditions as deplorable. Officials with Animal Services Public Health-Madison & Dane County took custody of the animals while police arrested 64-year-old Dennis Seitz, of Verona.
Seitz was arrested for 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety and mistreatment of animals. Seitz told officers he was in the process of moving his pets from one location to another. *****
