Gates open to the Wisconsin State Fair

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) -- The State Fair opens its 11-day celebration of Wisconsin agriculture with competition in everything from the finest miniature donkey to the tastiest pie.
Gates opened Thursday morning at State Fair Park in suburban Milwaukee. Try a cream puff or grilled alligator legs, take a run down the 200-foot slide on a burlap bag, stroll through the barns that house hundreds of animals or take a spin on more than 50 amusement rides. New this year are some animals not typically found at a state fair. A traveling sea lion show will entertain the crowds.
Organizers say more than one million people visit the fair each year.
