Countdown to Kickoff: Week in review - Mosinee

As Countdown to Kickoff continues, Newsline 9 reviews the first week of fall practice in Central Wisconsin.

Coming off of an 8-2 season, Mosinee marches through fall camp towards a season-opening game against Stratford. Twenty-one Indian seniors have a chance to build on last year's second round playoff berth under head coach Paul Nievinski. For the on-field experiment to work, Mosinee knows they need to figure out why they are on the grass in the first place.

“You have to have kids who are committed,” Nievinski said. “You have to show them that there is something there for them and for our team.”

“I think that is the biggest difference in high-school football in the last five-to-six years. Before, kids just came out. Now, with society, you are seeing that you have to have some reason to come out.”

Senior lineman Trevor Bangart says, regardless of what the reason that kids come out, they need to get along to go a long way.

“No drama,” Bangart said. “No nothin' going on. Just communicating and playing our game.”

If playing that game goes according to plan for Nievinski, Bangart, and senior quarterback Landon Stepan, then a league title is in sight.

“(I'm) looking forward to winning a conference championship,” Stepan said. “Beating Merrill. We are the underdogs there so it would be nice to beat them and win conference and go undefeated this year.”

The Indians open with Stratford on August 21st.
