96-year old Wisconsin woman relives pro pitching days
(WISN) -- Marjorie Peters will be 97-years-old next month but her passion for baseball is as strong as ever.
Peters pitched professionally for the Rockford Reaches in the mid 1940's. At the time, the country was in the middle of World War II. To keep baseball alive, MLB executives started recruiting women to the game.
The 1992 film "A League of their Own" is based on the real-life story of the All-American Girls League.
Recently, Peters was invited to throw out the first pitch at the "Super Senior Softball League" at McCarty Park in West Allis.
"She still has people who are sending her letters and cards and asking for her signature to this day," said Bari Svoboda, Peters' grand-niece.
Peters says she was disappointed with her throw but she was still given the all-star treatment, complete with a medal, autographs, and plenty of congratulations!
