Woman says sheriff's deputies violated her in cavity search

HOUSTON (AP) -- A woman says sheriff's deputies in Harris County, Texas, violated her by conducting a body cavity search on her in a gas station parking lot.

Attorney Sam Cammack says his client, 21-year-old Charnesia Corley, was pulled over by a male deputy in June. Cammack says the deputy claimed he smelled marijuana and searched her car for almost an hour. Cammack says no marijuana was found.

Corley was charged with resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

Cammack says a female deputy conducted a cavity search, and Corley had her pants pulled down and was ordered to bend over. He says Corley protested and was thrown to the ground, and two female deputies held her legs apart to conduct the search.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office told the Houston Chronicle they could not comment on an ongoing investigation, but office spokesman Thomas Gilleland told KRTK-TV that deputies did everything as they should.
