Authorities destroy suspicious device at Wauwatosa station
WAUWATOSA, Wis. (AP) - Authorities used a robot to destroy a suspicious device that was found at a Wauwatosa gas station.
Police Sgt. Chris McAtee says authorities later determined the device was not a bomb but rather an empty short pipe with two endcaps.
An employee spotted the pipe near a fuel pump at the Speedway gas station around 9 a.m. Sunday and, thinking it looked suspicious, called police. The sheriff's bomb squad was called in as police sealed off the area on a busy commercial strip.
Police are checking surveillance video to try to determine if the pipe was placed there or fell or a vehicle.
