Wisconsin driver helps bald eagle she struck with SUV

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A bald eagle hit by an SUV in Wisconsin is recovering at a University of Minnesota clinic after being helped by the driver who hit it.

Robbi Tribbey of Superior, Wisconsin, says she and her son were driving near Dairyland on Aug. 23 when the eagle flew in front of their SUV, hitting the front grill and windshield. She tells Minnesota Public Radio News that they got the eagle out of the road and into a cardboard box.

Tribbey says the eagle stayed in the SUV overnight, and they drove it to a Duluth nonprofit the next day. She and her son later volunteered to take it to the University of Minnesota's Raptor Center in St. Paul.

Clinic manager Lori Arent says that the eagle had major internal injuries, but is strong enough now to perch.
