The Latest: Group questions financing plan for Bucks arena
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee development and financial officials are giving the public its first official look at the final piece of a $500 million funding plan for a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks.
A group challenging the funding plan for a new $500 million area for the Milwaukee Bucks is questioning how the city has enough money to help pay for the project but not neighborhood or school investments.
A public meeting is being held Monday evening at City Hall, where the city's top development and financial officers are laying out how Milwaukee could generate its $47 million share of public funding.
A spokeswoman for Common Ground told city leaders that if so much money is readily available to build a facility for a professional sports team, there "must also be a similar investment in our neighborhoods and our children."
Jennifer O'Hear also asked how public officials could find millions of taxpayer dollars to help the billionaires who own the NBA team, "but not a cent" for her daughter's public school soccer field that's underwater half the season.
