State announces replacement for Badger Exam

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state of Wisconsin has found a replacement for the statewide Badger Exam given to public school students.

The Department of Public Instruction said Thursday it intends to contract with Data Recognition Corp. for a new assessment exam. It'll be called the Wisconsin Forward Exam.

The DPI says the new exam should be shorter and less expensive than the Badger Exam. It will be given online, with state educators involved in developing and reviewing the test.

Students will start taking the test next spring.

The Badger Exam, tied to Common Core academic standards, suffered from problem with its rollout and was widely criticized by parents, schools and lawmakers.
