Singapore ruling party wins elections, returns to power
The party that has ruledáSingapore for a half-century has returned to power for five more years after winning a majority a general election.
The People's Action Party won 49 of the 50 seats for which results have been announced so far in the 89-member Parliament in Friday's elections. The Workers' Party won 1 seat.
The opposition apparently failed to capitalize on public dissatisfaction over huge income disparity, restrictions on free speech, overcrowding caused by immigration, and the rising cost of living -- Singapore is the world's most expensive city, according to an international survey.
