KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Police say a Kenosha woman killed her two children in a premeditated attack and then tried to kill herself.
Kenosha Police Chief John Morrissey said at a press conference Sunday that authorities believe the children, ages 1 and 3, were medicated and suffocated. He says the mother was found with self-inflicted stab wounds. Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
Morrissey says police found a journal the mother left outlining the crime. He says the woman also sent a package to her sister describing her plans. It arrived Sunday.
The woman has been released from a hospital and is in custody at the Kenosha County jail. The chief says police will refer homicide charges to prosecutors. The Associated Press isn't naming the woman because she hasn't been formally charged.
