Firefighters rescue cat from pipe

(WBAY) -- It’s a joke firefighters hear all the time, but now De Pere firefighters can say they’ve rescued cats — not from up in a tree, but from an underground pipe.

Around 11:00 Tuesday morning, landscapers heard meows coming from a pipe outside a home on the 2300 block of Samantha Street.

First responders found a small cat stuck in a pipe that carries storm water from downspouts to the storm sewer under the street.

Firefighters had to dig up the pipe and then cut it to free the cat.

It appeared to be in good health and was taken to the Bay Area Humane Society.
