MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (AP) -- A Racine woman has died six days after falling into a fire pit during a get-together at a home in Mount Pleasant.
The Racine County Medical Examiner's Office says 57-year-old Shelley Baumann died Friday at Columbia-St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee.
The Racine Journal Times reports that Baumann suffered burns over nearly 80 percent of her body when she accidentally fell into the brick fire pit on the patio of the home last Saturday.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department said in a statement that foul play was not a factor and that the investigation is closed.
Friends and family gathered at a Racine tavern Friday night to remember Baumann. Money that relatives raised for her medical expenses will now go toward her funeral and estate expenses.
It was a successful weekend hunt for numerous area kids who bagged their very first deer.
