Wood Co. bicyclist on last leg of cross-country journey
LA CROSSE (WAOW) – A Central Wisconsin bicyclist has almost completed his cross-country journey for a cause.
Matt Stoltz, of Wisconsin Rapids, has spent the past five months traveling nearly 12,000 miles on his bicycle.
Along the way, he's been stopping at all 30 professional baseball stadiums across the country, all to raise money and awareness for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Milwaukee and Biking for Baseball.
"A lot of people from all over the country have really reached out to make a difference and that's wonderful. I've also had a lot of people tell me, just complete strangers, who heard about my story and told me that they signed up to become a mentor and got involved. That's incredible cause there's really no financial value that you can put on changing the life of a kid," Stoltz said.
So far , Stoltz has traveled to 28 major league baseball games and raised close to $30,000.
Up next he will travel to Chicago and then finish his journey in Milwaukee at a Brewers game.
