Athlete of the Week: Thomas Hogan

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The Wausau West boys soccer team hasn't quite had the season it imagined this year. The Warriors are 4-6 in WVC play, and despite being in the middle of the pack in terms of points, West's defense has helped keep them in plenty of games.

You can thank Thomas Hogan for that. Our Athlete of the Week leads the Wisconsin Valley in saves, with 79 entering this week, and a save percentage of nearly 80.

"I like to picture myself as a wall, and there's going to be holes in this wall that me or my defense can't get to," Hogan told Newsline 9. "But I have to give it everything that I can and make sure in the end that I'm playing to the best of my ability through the end of the season."

Hogan has bounced back this season, after two concussions sidelined him through much of 2014.

"He's a very committed individual both in season and out of season," Wausau West head coach Chris Behrens said. "He definitely puts in the extra effort. Off the field he's very involved in his academic career with NTC and the youth options program.

"He's just Thomas," Behrens said. "That's the best way to describe it."

Hogan plans on getting his associates degree at North Central Technical College before transferring his credits to UW-Stout to study graphic design.
