Massive Door County manor for sale

(WBAY) -- Ellison Bay Manor is unlike any home in Door County. It’s thought to be the largest single-family home in Wisconsin.

For the past eight years, off and on, it has been for sale, and it still is.

From the view of the bay, to the grand entrance, there is so much to look at inside the 35,000 square-foot space.

There are 43 rooms and 10 bathrooms.

“It was built to impress and it certainly does that if you want to be impressed,” said Terry Mazza, who is an heir to the estate.

There’s a movie theater, swimming pool, and the master bedroom suite is 5,000 square feet with his-and-hers bathrooms and closets.

One walk along the first and second floors and you will have just walked one mile.

“Were sitting in a house that would rival anything in the Hamptons on Long Island,” said Mazza.

The manor was finished in 1996 and owned by an heir to the Miller Electric fortune.

Mazza’s father bought it a decade later, but his wife became ill so they weren’t able to move to Door County from California. Ever since, it has been for sale at various times. Mazza believes the home is worth just over $6 million. The home is listed at $2.9 million. He hopes that price will help lure in a buyer.

“We’d like to put an end to this chapter in our life and move forward,” said Mazza.

“The real challenge is finding someone who would like to have a property of this magnitude and appreciates what’s here,” said Sara Glenn, a broker with True North Real Estate.

It’s not just about finding any buyer. Mazza wants to find the right one and soon.

“I hope they have a community spirit…a person who has a strong interest in the community and wants to make it an asset for that community,” said Mazza.

While the home has not been lived in for many years, in recent years, it has been used to host charity events.
