Falling enrollment closing Illinois, Wisconsin scout camps

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) -- A Cub Scout camp in northern Illinois and two boy scout camps in Wisconsin are expected to close because of declining attendance and financial losses.

The Daily Herald reports that the Chicago-area Scout council board adopted a resolution this week to close the camps. The Boy Scouts of America's Central Region is expected to approve the plan by the end of the month.

Under the proposal, Camp Lakota in Woodstock, Illinois, will close by the end of 2017.

The two Wisconsin camps are expected to close this year. They are Camp Mach-kin-o-Siew near Elcho, Wisconsin, on Lake Enterprise and Camp Shin-Go-Beek in Waupaca in central Wisconsin.

President of the Pathway to Adventure Council Craig Burkhardt says the membership in the region's Boy Scouts program has "clearly" declined.
