Police: Woman Periscopes while driving drunk

(CNN) -- A 23-year-old Lakeland, Florida woman was arrested on a DUI charge after police said she broadcasted herself on Periscope, a live video streaming platform, driving drunk.

Police provided reporters with recordings of the video feed they downloaded from the Internet. On the videos, Whitney Beall could be heard many times announcing that she was driving drunk.

Beall's Friday night started out with lots of drinks at downtown bars. The whole experience broadcast on the live video app Periscope.

So drunk, investigators say, she lost her good sense, announcing to the whole world, she'll try to get home in her condition.

She knows dozens of people are watching.

"57 people. Oh my god I didn't know I'd get this many people," police say she said on the app.

She knows this could end badly.

"She was out of it. And it was obvious by watching that live streaming video how bad she was," said Lakeland Police Sergeant Gary Gross.

Lakeland Police say that's when viewers started calling 911.

That is when a quick thinking officer decided to download the Periscope app for himself. He started watching the live feed and that is when he figured out Beall was driving along Carpenters Way in North Lakeland.

Beall was arrested and charged with DUI. She was later transported to the Polk County Jail.

Lee Cohen, a Lakeland attorney representing Beall, released the following statement about his client: "She is a young professional with a bright future. When her court date is set, I will be entering a plea on her behalf of not guilty. I am not doing any interviews at this time, nor is my client or her mother. I'll be investigating the case and that starts now. I am waiting to see all the evidence, and I will take a look at it. I am also waiting for discovery from the state attorney's office."
