Athlete of the Week - Brooke Jaworski

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Wausau West freshman runner Brooke Jaworski has the potential to be something special.

"Brooke is a freshman and she is an incredibly gifted athlete," Wausau West Girls Cross Country Coach Rachel Tordsen said.

Just a freshman, Jaworski is coming off a first place finish at last weekend's Wisconsin Valley Conference meet.

"She's a hard worker and she's a great teammate," Tordsen said. "She's funny, she's fun, and she's a great addition to our team this year."

As an eighth-grader, Jaworski was already running times that would have won her WIAA state championships at the varsity level. She won an AAU Junior Olympics championship in the summer of 2014.

Now, as expected, she's turning heads as a high school freshman, but it's a transition that hasn't been easy for her.

"I started out a little less confident than I should have been," she told Newsline 9. But progressively I won races and improved my time and my team helped me along. It boosted my confidence and I'm a confident runner now."

"She works very hard and I think all of her teammates respect that," Tordsen said in an interview following Saturday's WVC meet. "She gets along great with them and they get along great with her. They work so well together and are all happy for each other when they have success."

Jaworski's running motto is don't look back, and that motto has served her well. She plan on keeping this saying locked in her head as she races toward competing in the WIAA state meet.

"The possibilities are nearly endless for her," Tordsen said. "She has the natural talent and the work ethic. She's competitive, and I think the sky's the limit for her."
