John Deere planning expansion in Horicon

HORICON, Wis. (AP) -- John Deere plans to invest nearly $43 million to expand its Horicon plant.
The company says the expansion is needed because of increased sales of its Gator utility vehicles to farmers, hunters and others. Horicon Works manager Steve Johnson says the Gators account for about half the plant's production.
The expansion is expected to create 80 additional jobs at the Horicon plant, which currently has about 1,100 employees.
The Journal Sentinel reports it will come at the expense of jobs in Janesville. John Deere will shift some work done by a contract manufacturing operation in Janesville to Horicon. The contract manufacturer has about 100 employees. Once the space is added in Horicon, the company will end its lease in Janesville.
