Apple growers enjoy bountiful harvest

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- Apple growers in west-central Wisconsin are enjoying a bountiful harvest this year, thanks to a wet spring and warm, sunny fall.

Joe Ferguson of Morningside Orchard in Galesville says last spring's weather made a big difference. Ferguson says the rainfall was good for the orchard's apples and pumpkins.

The damp weather wasn't entirely a boon, however, since it did increase the chance of disease among the trees and plants, and brought some hail early in the season.

The La Crosse Tribune reports a dry harvest season also helped apple growers.

Not only was the dry autumn good for those picking apples to sell by the bushel, but it also brought in visitors.
