Madison police report few arrests during 'Freakfest'

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison police report only a handful of arrests after thousands of people descended on downtown for the city's annual Halloween party.

Police say more than 34,000 tickets were sold for Saturday night's "Freakfest." As of 1:30 a.m. Sunday, there were only nine arrests, with two of the nine going to jail.

Police say most citations were for having open intoxicants on the street or violating the glass ban.

Officers responded to a couple of fights, and a loaded handgun was confiscated from a drunken concealed-carry permit holder after he tried to enter the venue.

The most serious injury was a broken leg suffered by a woman who fell off a curb.

WISC-TV reports since the city took over Madison's Halloween celebration in 2006, there have been no major incidents.
