2 teen suspects shot by Milwaukee police

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Police Department says two 17-year-old suspects were shot and injured by police on the city's north side.

Milwaukee police say two bicycle officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle without license plates around 8:40 p.m. Monday when they found three suspects. Police say one of the suspects was clearly armed and exchanged gunfire with the officers when he was approached.

Two of the suspects, both 17-year-old males from Milwaukee, were shot by the officers and taken to a hospital. The third suspect, an 18-year-old West Allis man, was arrested at the scene, but he and the officers weren't injured.

Police say they recovered two handguns and drugs. They say the vehicle was stolen in October during a burglary on the city's south side.
Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
