Janesville teens arrested after leading police on chase with stolen vehicle
JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Janesville police officers have arrested two juveniles they say led them on a chase with a stolen vehicle after stealing items from cars.
Just after 11:00 p.m. Sunday, officers were told to go to the area of Kellogg Avenue and Center Avenue to fine a 16-year-old girl who had run away from home and was reportedly driving a stolen vehicle. Officers spotted the vehicle on Center Avenue near Joliet Street driving without headlights on. They tried pulling the driver over, but she took off, and they pursued her. That lasted a little more than half a mile, before the vehicle crashed into a fence at the dead end of LaSalle Court, just south of Champlain Street.
Police confirmed the driver was the 16-year-old runaway. She had a 14-year-old male passenger with her. Neither were injured, but both were taken into custody. Both are being held at the Rock County Juvenile Detention Center on charges stemming from this incident, according to Janesville Police Department.
After investigating further, Janesville police say the teenagers were involved in thefts from motor vehicles on the southwest side of the city prior to officers finding them. Officers searched the stolen vehicle and found several items that had been stolen recently from other vehicles. Some of those items have been returned to their owners. They're still trying to identifying the owners of other items.
