China's extreme fireworks both beautiful & dangerous

CHINA (ABC) -- Incredible video capturing celebrations for the Lunar New Year. (Year of the Monkey)

A 500-year-old tradition for one Chinese village, Naunquan is a spectacular and extreme fireworks celebration that's also a bit dangerous.

Villagers celebrate by throwing molten metal against the city wall.

They call it DaShuHua -- "Beating Down The Tree Flowers."

It's performed only by local blacksmiths.

It started because fireworks were only afforded by the very rich, and the poor could only pull together scrap metal to melt down.

The "fireworks" are now performed nightly during the finale of a local cultural show.

The iron used is melted at 2900 degrees.
