March 2016 Jefferson Award Winner: Weston businessman Craig Kersemeier

WESTON (WAOW) - A Weston businessman is recognized with the March Jefferson Award for his volunteer activities.

Craig Kersemeier calls himself an organizer and says his mother inspired him to start K-Tech charities in 2006.

From there, it expanded to doing food baskets for 25 families during the holidays. Today, 400 families benefit from his kindness.

"I really enjoy seeing the surprised faces. People are really happy to be receiving this food for the holidays," said Peter Hintz, who volunteers to help with the food basket charity.

The families helped appreciate the kindness, too. " I have been going through a lot in and out of the hospital. It made by day," Amber Evans said.
Of  the dozens of fundraisers Kersemeier helps out, he is especially proud of the Pink Ribbon Open each June. It is a daylong golf outing where celebrities join local golfers to raise money to help breast cancer patients pay for their treatment.
It makes a difference in people's lives and that makes it so positive, Kersemeier said.

He encourages others to find something they can do to make a difference in their communities.
"Don't ever sell yourself short by saying, 'I am just one person  I can't make that big a difference.' You're  wrong. If you have a group of people together, you are pretty powerful," Kersemeier said.
