Sens. Johnson and Baldwin hold hearing on heroin abuse

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Sens. Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin are hearing from Wisconsin community members Friday on the state's heroin epidemic.
Johnson, a Republican, says the rise of heroin-related deaths in Wisconsin is directly related to the insecurity of U.S. borders.

Baldwin, a Democrat, says she's working to advance legislation addressing the entire spectrum of addiction, including boosting prevention and expanded access to treatment.

Friday's hearing is taking place at Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee. The panels include state legislators, Attorney General Brad Schimel, national drug control officials and the mother of a 19-year-old who died of a heroin overdose.
