Pointers sweep doubleheader series against Pioneers

In a second doubleheader against WIAC rivals UW-Platteville at home, the UW-Stevens Point baseball team won both of today's games against the Pioneers, 1-0 and 9-1.

Game 1 against the Pioneers was an extra-innings stare down, with neither team willing to blink until the 15th frame. The game stayed knotted at 0-0 until Will Iloncaie touched home plate on a fielder's choice by Ben Gerber in the bottom of the 15th inning.

On the mound, Alex Stadola got the win for the Pointers, allowing no runs in three innings of work with two strike outs.

In game 2, the Pointers were much more offensive, scoring nine runs on 11 hits. Pointers shortstop Ray Greco lead the way for Point at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Greco also drew two walks.

Alex Thompson was game 2's winning pitcher. Thompson pitched six innings for the Pointers, striking out three while giving up just one run on five hits.

Winners of their last seven games, the Pointers (15-13, 7-5) are back in action on April 26, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m.
