UPDATE: Deceased Antigo prom shooter identified; one victim undergoing surgery
ANTIGO (WAOW) -
The shooter who opened fire at Antigo High School's prom on Saturday night has been identified, according to a press release from the Antigo Police Department.
18 year-old Jakob E. Wagner died at 1:06 a.m. at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after lifesaving measures were performed, according to Langlade County Coroner Larry Shadick.
Antigo Police opened fire on Wagner after he shot two students with a rifle who were walking out of Antigo High School's prom at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the prom, heard the shots, and an officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat, according to Chief Eric Roller with the Antigo Police Department.
Both the shooter and the two victims were originally taken to Aspirus Langlade Hospital.
The female victim was treated at the hospital after the bullet grazed her body, and she was discharged afterward.
The male victim was transferred to Aspirus Wausau Hospital and is currently undergoing surgery for non-life threatening injuries after taking a bullet to the leg.
According to the Police Chief, the victims' families have been notified, and he believes the scene is secure and does not see a further threat to the community.
Wagner graduated from Antigo High School last year. His body was transported to the Fond du Lac medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
The Department of Justice and the Department of Criminal Investigation will take over the investigation from the Antigo Police Department since the incident is an officer-involved shooting.
