WASHINGTON (AP) -

Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign says it plans to lay off hundreds of field staffers and other aides.

Campaign spokesman Michael Briggs says the campaign will have gone from a staff of more than 1,000 in January to about 325-350. He says there's been a shift in focus to the June 7 California primary.

Word of the staff cuts came a day after Sanders lost all but one of the five Democratic primaries in the Northeast. He managed a win in Rhode Island.

In a rally Wednesday at Purdue University, Sanders said if he doesn't win he intends to take as many delegates as possible to the Democratic Convention in July to "put together the strongest progressive agenda that any political party has ever seen."
