The first trailer for the reboot became infamous for being YouTube's most disliked trailer ever, and it had already riled many fans of the original thanks to its all-female cast and a plot that will feature the originals' surviving cast members only in cameos that aren't their 'busting characters.
"As originator of the original," series co-creator Aykroyd noted in a Facebook post, "Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it!"
His comments once again set off many fans of the 1984 original and its sequel. "So basically your saying this ghostbusters [sic] movie is better than the originals? What a way to s--- on ghostbusters," one responded to the star. Others pointed out that as the original films' co-creator and a producer on the reboot, he has a vested interest in the new series.
"As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!" Aykroyd added.
