Ryan Gosling Is Ready for a Woman as President

(ABC) -- There's a reason why actor Ryan Gosling is considered a feminist icon.

Appearing on the latest cover of ES Magazine, the 35-year-old "Nice Guys" star said it's about time for a woman in the White House.

"I think it [America] needs a woman’s touch," he told the magazine for Britain's Evening Standard newspaper. "I’ve always liked women more. I was brought up by my mother and older sister. I found my way into dance class. My home life now is mostly women. They are better than us. They make me better."

The father of two girls added, "I think women are better than men. They are stronger, more evolved. You can tell especially when you have daughters and you see their early stages, they are just leaps and bounds beyond boys immediately."

The heartthrob actor can also relate to the objectification many women feel, having received attention for his looks from countless females and gay men.

"It’s our time as men to be on the receiving end of the stick," he said, adding, "I grew up with women so I’ve always been aware of it. When my mother and I walked to the grocery store, men would circle the block in cars. It was very, very scary, especially as a young boy. Very predatory -- a hunt."

Fortunately, Gosling has kept his sense of humor intact.

He revealed to the magazine that his "shrink" actually suggested that he take more comedic roles.

"A long time ago I went to see a shrink and he wrote me a prescription that said: ‘Do comedy.’"

And so he has, including his latest film, "Nice Guys," with Russell Crowe.

"What’s nice with comedy is that you know it’s working if it’s funny," he said. "With drama you can watch people in the wings [of a theater] and you don’t know if they are suffering [with you] through your movie or they are just deeply bored."
