Strong storms leaves 30,000 without power

A strong spring storm didn't stick around long, but its damaging winds toppled trees and left about 30,000 electric customers without power in southeastern Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service issued thunderstorm warnings Sunday evening as the fast-moving storm approached. The storm dropped large hail and packed powerful wind gusts of up to 70 mph.

We Energies crews worked to restore power and had all but about 3,000 customers back on line by early Monday.

Strong winds also uprooted and snapped dozens of trees across central and east-central Wisconsin late Sunday afternoon. More than 22,000 customers of Wisconsin Public Service Corp. were without power at the storm's peak. Power had been restored to almost all customers by Monday afternoon. Several parks in the Wausau area were closed due to downed trees.
