Florida AG asked Trump for donation before nixing fraud case

WASHINGTON (AP) -

A spokesman for Florida's attorney general, Pam Bondi, confirms that she personally solicited a political contribution from Donald Trump around the time her office deliberated joining an investigation of alleged fraud at Trump University.

New York's attorney general and a federal class action civil lawsuit in California allege that the now-defunct Trump University -- owned by the presumptive Republican nominee -- defrauded consumers with false promises of a valuable real estate investing education.

Trump gave a group supporting Bondi $25,000. He has said during his campaign that he expected favors from elected officials in exchange for campaign donations.

Marc Reichelderfer, a political consultant who fielded questions on the donation at Bondi's request, said she did not know about the consumer complaints when she asked Trump for money.
