Wisconsin Democrat calls on Republicans to denounce Trump
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Democratic leader of the Wisconsin state Senate is calling on Republicans to denounce Donald Trump.
Sen. Jennifer Shilling Wednesday referred to comments Trump made questioning the fairness of a federal judge because he is of Mexican heritage.
House Speaker Paul Ryan has called it a racist remark and Gov. Scott Walker disavows the comment and says he wants to see Trump renounce it. Shilling calls on Republicans to reject Trump's candidacy.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has endorsed Trump and called on fellow Republicans to coalesce behind him.
Wisconsin Republican Party spokesman Pat Garret in response did not address Shilling's call to denounce Trump, but accused Democrats of playing political games. Garrett says Republicans' "record of results stand in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton and her record of scandal."
