(ABC) -- Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson co-star in the new movie “Central Intelligence” as high school classmates reuniting 20 years later to save the world.

In real life, the two stars visited a New York City high school to surprise 275 unsuspecting teenagers and deliver a powerful message.

ABC News’ Amy Robach was behind the scenes for Hart and Johnson’s top-secret mission last Wednesday to Landmark High School, a diverse school in the heart of the city.

“A lot of the students here have been challenged here in many, many ways, coming up hard, seeing hard times,” Johnson told Robach before the surprise. “Kevin and I are no stranger to that.”

Johnson, 44, and Hart, 36, sprung through the doors of Landmark in the middle of a pep rally.

“Our message to everybody here is be brave and the first step to being brave is understanding that you control every single step,” Hart told the students. “You all have a bright future. You know why you have a bright future? Because you all are your own destiny.”

Hart added, “If you are a person who has been bullied, we encourage you to speak up. Tell people what is going on.”

Johnson, who has spoken publicly about being bullied as a kid, had a simple message for the students.

“Regardless of your challenges, you can overcome them and you can be great,” he said. “Push yourselves to greatness.”

“Central Intelligence” opens in theaters on June 17.
