Lakefront hotel closed by fire officials in Kenosha
KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -
The Kenosha Fire Department has ordered a lakefront hotel to close.
Fire officials say the Best Western Harborside Inn has a number of code violations, including a failing roof. Fire Division Chief Guy Santelli says the property is a detriment to guests and the citizens of Kenosha.
Guests on Monday were taken to other hotels as the property was shut down. The hotel has had problems in the past. A liquor license was revoked in April because the president of the corporation operating the hotel, Syed Bokhari, is facing federal charges, including trafficking contraband and money laundering.
The Kenosha News says hotel staff hope to talk to city officials and re-open as soon as possible. But, Santelli says he expects all problems to be fixed before a re-opening is even discussed.
