Hillsboro man gets 9 years for stabbing man in neck
NEILSVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A judge has sentenced a Hillsboro man to nine years in prison for stabbing a man in the neck after a drinking game devolved into a fight.
USA Today Network-Wisconsin reports 18-year-old Mathew Gebhardt pleaded no contest to attempted second-degree reckless homicide in a plea bargain. Wood County Circuit Judge Todd Wolf, acting as a substitute judge in the Clark County case, handed down the sentence Friday.
Gebhardt, his girlfriend, his sister and a 27-year-old man were at a home in Neillsville in March 2015 when Gebhardt told his sister she could punch him in the face if she drank a shot. Gebhardt's girlfriend became angry when his sister punched him and a fight ensued. Gebhardt pulled out a knife and stabbed the 27-year-old man in the neck.
