Canadian PM invites royal family to visit Canada

Posted:

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) -- A spokeswoman says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has sent an official invitation to William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family, to visit Canada whenever their schedules permit.

William, the eldest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, and his wife Kate Middleton, last visited Canada on their first official tour as newlyweds in 2011. They toured four provinces, the Northwest Territories, and made a stop in Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day on Parliament Hill at the time.

If they accept Trudeau's invitation, their young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, are welcome to join them on the trip.
