Villar walk off lifts Brewers to 4-3 victory over Cards

Posted:

Just 2-7 against St. Louis this season, the Brewers defeat their National League Central Division foes, 4-3, after a walk-off base hit by Jonathan Villar in the ninth.

Chris Carter started things off for the Brewers with a solo home run in the second inning for an early 1-0 Brewers lead. Brewers All-Star catcher Johnathan Lucroy tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the sixth with solo home run. Carter followed Lucroy with his second home run of the night for a 3-2 Brewers lead. Carter now has 22 home runs on the season.

After surrendering the lead in the eighth, the Brewers won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a Villar single to left field. Kirk Nieuwenhuis would score the winning run from second, beating a throw to home. The play at the plate would be reviewed, but ultimately would stand.
