Evers, 2 others seeking state superintendent post

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -

State Superintendent Tony Evers is seeking a third term and at least two others are planning to challenge him for the post.

Evers confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday that he is running for a third term. The election is in April.

Two others have announced they plan to challenge him for the officially nonpartisan position.

Germantown school district administrator Jeff Holmes announced last month that he was entering the race. And former Beloit Superintendent Lowell Holtz planned a four-city announcement tour of his candidacy on Tuesday.

Holtz had previously run in 2009 and lost to Evers. Evers was re-elected in 2013.

Holtz retired at the end of June as superintendent in the Whitnall School District, after previously working in Beloit.
